In Ezekiel 38:14-17 it mentions the talk of hordes of Israels enemy coming against them on horses covering the land. 15 You will come from your place out of(AN) the uttermost parts of the north, you and many peoples with you, all of them riding on horses, a great host, a mighty army. 16 You will come up against my people Israel,(AQ) like a cloud covering the land. Ezekiel 38:15-16a (ESV)One thing important to mention is that this passage seems to indicate a land based attack.
Horses are of course modes of transportation used by cavalry. "like a cloud covering the land" seems to indicate a mass of people that seems to block visibility of the land beneath their feet from an aerial view.
So why is this important? Well consider the options that Israel Iran, Turkey and Moscow have to go to war with each other.
First of course is nuclear. The one thing that Israel has in its favor is its geographical position. It is to the west of Iran and Iraq. What this means is that nuclear fallout would generally follow a west to east pattern. I say fallout because Israel's missile shield is one of the most advanced. If a projectile was shot anywhere outside of Israel towards Israel it could be shot down before it hit Israeli airspace. Therefore nuclear fallout would generally float to the east. This would negatively affect Syria, Jordan and Iraq. If these countries are least helping the spearpoint of the ITR(Iran Turkey Russia)coalition. So it can be assumed that they would have some say over not having their countries affected.
But two points prevent me stating that a nuclear attack is not out of the question. (1)The fact that Iraq is in an active coalition with the US. Fallout on US soldiers means victory for the ITR. This could also have an even more negative result of breaking a partnership with the US if fallout lands on US soldiers stationed on an military installation. (This could occur if the missile was launched from withing Iraq, Jordan or Syria)The US government could wrongly fault Israel for shooting down a missile which would cause such fallout to occur. The US then withdraws its support of Israel because of this incident.
(2) Another related point is that if an nuclear missile does explode over Iraq or Iran. An emp would occur. EMP stands for Electro Magnetic Pulse. This pulse could render any electronic device unuseable. We now have old warfare schemes. An attack plan that is reduced to a massive land invasion with limited communications systems and low tech warfare. In order for this land invasion to work, it would have to be quickly and done. Basically a surprise encounter. With today's technology that would be near impossible. So basically two scenarios for this to happen. (Scenario A) the overwhelming force of the hordes of attackers is too much to plan to stop before they reach israeli borders or (Scenario B) any EMP's knock out (geo stationary)satellites in that area.
Again what about the US and Israel other allies? Is there some sort of Economic or political reasons for not joining in to help its ally Israel?
A third scenario which is actually seeming more likely due to the arrogance of the Iranian Leaders is this. Since they feel that the coming of their Mahdi signals global victory for Iran and Islam alike and since this coming is predicated on or in conjunction with a period of extreme violence against Israel, it would seem that Iran would throw everything that they can against Israel to destroy it, without regard to political affiliations and cooperation among countries. Because they feel that doing this amount of damage and destruction would ultimately bring their ultimate weapon, the Mahdi to avenge all.
Iran makes no bones about getting nukes. Buying them or gaining material for nuclear energy, or just stating when they are red handed that they should have the same right as others to be nuclear superpowers.
So a launch of nuke(s) towards Israel with a immediate follow up ground invasion could occur. This would mean a sacrifice of his invading hordes. But Iran's leaders probably feel that this is just what the Mahdi ordered.
